About

The German teacher

"From a Gestaltist perspective, 'If everybody says it is a good idea, you're too late'."

My name is Zac, and I’m a Birmingham, Alabama-based German language tutor and translator. I currently reside in Birmingham, Alabama, but yes, I have been to Germany multiple times, and yes, I would prefer to live in Munich, or Berlin, or Cologne.

I studied German at Samford University under Drs. Hajo Drees, Angela Ferguson, and Terry Pickett, obtaining my B.A. in May of 2005, before entering the Graduate Program at the University of Alabama. I taught and tutored German at UA in Tuscaloosa and helped professors there, mainly Drs. Thomas C. Fox and Douglas J. Lightfoot, obtaining my M.A. in German Studies two years later, in May of 2007. The longest paper I wrote there was for Dr. Barbara Fischer and ran about 30 pages and was on the life, expressionism, and color symbolism of the late poet Georg Trakl (1887-1914).

After that I taught at UAB and managed the German program there for two semesters and two summer terms, and now I freelance in German.

Online lessons are also an available option. Call me at (205) 910-8053 to schedule your German lessons! Chances are I will be in a lesson or busy when you call, so please leave a message with your name and number so that I can get back to you in a timely manner.

Availability is limited and is on a first come, first serve basis. Lesson times are limited, so e-mail me at xaksullivan@gmail.com or call me at (205) 910-8053 and let’s discuss the details. If you would like to apply for a position as copy writer for GLH or remote teacher in another location, please send me an e-mail with your resume and / or CV and a brief note about why I should hire you and what you could add to the site.
